All of our gloves, including men's and women's leather gloves, technical and sport gloves are made from specially selected high quality gloving leather to ensure that they are soft and durable, however your Southcombe gloves will last longer if they are looked after in the appropriate way. Please follow the advice below on how to care for and clean your gloves.
Preferably store your gloves flat in a clean and dry place. If your gloves get wet, allow them to dry naturally at room temperature and away from any external heat source, such as radiators, tumble dryers, hair dryers or direct sun light. Direct heat can dehydrate and crack the leather! If your gloves become soiled, use a damp cloth to gently wipe the leather. You can add a tiny drop of detergent if the stain is greasy. Don't rub too hard or you could fade the colour of the leather. Let the gloves dry naturally, then wear them and massage them on your hands to restore some of the natural flex.
Caroline Southcombe, the Design Director of Southcombe Gloves, swears by rubbing hand cream into your leather gloves when you first receive them. This may temporarily darken the leather but by the next day they should be back to normal. This oily cream gives our leather gloves a naturally stain and water repellent finish. It will only work with gloves where the colour is added in the drum - spray finished leather (ie cheaper gloves) won't let the cream sink in. Remember our soft leather is a natural skin - anything that works for your skin should work for our gloves!
For heavy soiling, we recommend the services of a specialised leather dry cleaner. If you decide to use a proprietary leather cleaner or conditioner, please read the product instructions carefully, and be sure the product you are using is suitable for your glove leather.
